PROVIDENCE HOME

Archbishop Banda urges selfless service as Catholic Action Lay group supports Providence Home

When we visit the suffering, we offer what is often described as the ministry of presence. Our presence conveys a message that material assistance alone can never fully communicate: you are seen, you matter, and you are not forgotten.

This ministry requires neither special qualifications nor abundant financial resources. It does not depend on eloquent words or grand gestures. Rather, it calls for a willingness to enter the often difficult and uncomfortable realities of another person's life and to walk alongside them with compassion, love, and genuine concern.

This spirit of Charity was vividly demonstrated by the Catholic Action Lay Group of the Archdiocese of Lusaka during the continued celebrations of St. Charles Lwanga and his Companions. Accompanied by Longacres Deanery Chaplain, Fr. Clement Chisanga, the group visited Providence Home for differently abled children, bringing not only material donations but also the priceless gift of solidarity, companionship, and care.

Their visit served as a powerful reminder to both the children and the Providence Sisters who lovingly care for them that they are cherished members of God's family and an integral part of the Church community.

The initiative drew inspiration from Archbishop Alick Banda, who encouraged the lay faithful to remain steadfast in their faith and commitment to serving others during the lay group’s Thanksgiving Mass at the Cathedral of the Child Jesus.

Dr. Banda reminded them that true generosity is measured not by the size of the gift but by the spirit in which it is given.

Reflecting on the Gospel account of the widow who offered her last coins, the Archbishop urged the lay group, fondly addressed as ‘Ba Kalolo’ to continue their works of charity with humility and trust, confident that God alone rewards every act of selfless love.
