Building a Responsible Electorate in the Archdiocese of Lusaka

Empowering voters through Education

Members of the Archdiocese of Lusaka’s Peace and Justice Commission, together with Deans from across the Archdiocese under the Social and Programmes Directorate, convened today for a voter education workshop facilitated by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ). The workshop underscored the Church’s vital role in nurturing an informed and responsible electorate ahead of future elections.

With its wide network and trusted moral voice, the Church remains uniquely positioned to guide communities in understanding both their right and duty to participate meaningfully in Zambia’s democratic process. Prior to elections, voter education helps citizens register correctly, know where and how to vote, and guard against misinformation and manipulation. It also empowers voters to make choices guided by integrity, shared values, and the common good.

During the voting period, voter education promotes peace, respect for diversity, and adherence to electoral laws reducing fear, tension, and confusion at polling stations.

Beyond election day, the lessons continue to resonate, reminding citizens that democracy extends beyond casting a ballot. It involves holding leaders accountable, fostering peace, and working together for national development.

Through such initiatives, the Archdiocese of Lusaka reaffirms its commitment to nurturing civic responsibility and moral leadership for the good of all Zambians.
