ADL 2025 MARIAN PILGRIMAGE

The Archdiocese of Lusaka

ADL 2025 MARIAN PILGRIMAGE

In a profound display of faith and unity, the Archdiocese of Lusaka marked the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary—its Patron Saint—with a first-of-its-kind Marian Pilgrimage that stirred hearts and renewed devotion. The faithful, young and old, gathered in the early hours of today, August 15, 2025 at Roma Parish, the Pro-Cathedral, to begin the over 11-kilometre spiritual journey to the Marian Shrine.
Led by His Grace Archbishop Alick Banda, the pilgrimage was more than a walk—it was a public testament of faith, sacrifice, and deep reverence for Mary, who holds a special place in the soul of the Archdiocese. Along the route, prayers, hymns, and rosaries filled the air, echoing the theme of hope and renewal.
Upon arrival at the Marian Shrine, the pilgrimage culminated in a solemn Eucharistic celebration, during which Archbishop Banda once again consecrated the Archdiocese of Lusaka to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
“Hail Mary, Mother of God, Protector of the Archdiocese of Lusaka. In the 18th Year of our Episcopate and the 7th Year as Metropolitan of Lusaka, today, I come to your sanctuary, the Marian Shrine of our Lady of Lusaka to pay you filial honour and homage, and to entrust myself anew together with the Archdiocesan family entrusted to my care.”
“I do this following the example of our people of this Archdiocese and its shepherds, who for many years have made pilgrimages to this Shrine and have asked you: ‘reconcile us with your Son, recommend us to your Son, and give us to your Son’.”
His heartfelt homily called on the faithful to imitate Mary’s courage and unwavering trust in God, especially in the current challenging times.
This inaugural pilgrimage from the Pro-Cathedral marks a historic spiritual milestone—one that deepens the archdiocese’s identity under the patronage of Our Lady. It also sets a precedent for future generations to walk not only in faith, but with purpose, unity, and Marian devotion at the heart of their journey.
