Archbishop Banda issues urgent Call to Action:

…Act now to prevent cholera as the rainy Season looms

As the rainy season approaches, Archbishop Dr. Alick Banda has risen above the din, his message clear and urgent, a rallying cry for the community and a reminder that with the rains come the risk of cholera.

In his Homily during the midday Mass at the Cathedral of the Child Jesus, Dr. Banda called on the public to be proactive in maintaining good hygiene standards to avert the cholera outbreak.

“As we approach the rainy season, issues of waterborne diseases will be rampant amongst us and especially in our compounds,” he said. “With a spirit of love and generosity, let us not only offer our lending hand when it is too late, when lives have been lost, but the time is now.”

“The time to act is now.  Let us be proactive to provide clean and safe drinking water to our people, especially in compounds.  Let us unblock all farrows and drainages.  Let us clear and clean all dumping sites in the middle of the compounds and provide clean and safe trading areas.”

In the gathering gloom of the rainy season, his words are a beacon of hope and a call to action, a plea for collective responsibility in the fight against a preventable menace.

“This will avert the scourge of waterborne diseases (especially cholera) and the loss of lives thereof.  May our priorities reflect the Lord’s priorities, the Lord who came to serve and not to be served,” he said.
